In partnership with The Quarantine Concerts, an inspired live-stream series hosted by Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio, Ars Nova Workshop is pleased to present an evening of creative music, all by artists from Philadelphia (though you may not have known it!).
The Ars Nova Workshop-organized Quarantine Concerts features an all-star lineup that speaks to Philadelphia’s vibrancy and rich legacy as a “jazz town.” We’ll feature six sets, each one half-hour long, viewable on the Ars Nova Workshop website, and via the Experimental Sound Studio Twitch account or website.
Last year, Ars Nova presented the return of the Sounds of Liberation, which she led. From her work with Grover Washington to her releases on the prestigious Steeple Chase Records, Monnette is one of Philadelphia’s most valuable players.
Abrams was once seen busking on the streets of Philadelphia as an original member of The Roots. Since the mid-1990s, he’s been a key figure in Chicago’s creative music scene, and his Natural Information Society has captivated audiences for a decade with psychedelic, hypnotic environments.
From the Sun Ra Arkestra’s engine room, Jupiter Blue’s tone scientists DM Hotep and Jupiter Girl (Tara Middleton) emerge to reveal elements and precepts of another kind of language, another tomorrow.
Philadelphia’s Brian Marsella is finally being recognized as one of the most talented and imaginative pianists of his generation. A veteran of countless bands, including Banquet of the Spirits and many projects with John Zorn, his recent recordings have been some of the most exciting music coming out of the NYC jazz scene.
The burning guitarist of Cleric and John Zorn’s Simulacrum, Matt’s sonic world traverses avant-garde classical, free jazz, dissonant math metal, ambient, and world music.
A musician of astonishing virtuosity and versatility, Uri’s playing is an encyclopedia of styles from Tatum to Evans and beyond.
Donations are requested on a sliding scale and 100% of all proceeds go to the musicians or to their designated fund.
