Ars Nova Workshop presents Germaine Ingram and Diane Monroe, performing their original composition “Percussion in the Body, Percussion in the Bow,” at Solar Myth on November 19 as a part of the closing celebration of the Brewerytown Tap Dance Festival.
At age 33, Germaine Ingram took up dance under the tutelage and mentorship of the late Philadelphia tap legend LaVaughn Robinson. Since then, she has become a major figure in contemporary jazz tap. Ingram’s work addresses social justice and historical narratives, as well as various aspects of the African-American experience. Native Philadelphian Diane Monroe is a violinist whose versatility and expressive artistry span the realms of both jazz and classical music. She came to prominence as first violinist of the Uptown String Quartet and the Max Roach Double Quartet, and she toured with the likes of Joe Lovano and Oliver Lake during her four-year run with the String Trio of New York. Their collaborative composition “Percussion in the Body, Percussion in the Bow” will feature in-demand Philly pianist Tim Brey (Terell Stafford, Veronica Swift) along with percussion soloists Bethlehem Roberson and Robyn Watson, both Philadelphia natives.
