Kassel Jaeger + Stephen O’Malley

Ars Nova Workshop presents the  duo of sonic experimentalists François J. Bonnet (Kassel Jaeger) and Stephen O’Malley (Sunn O)))) at Solar Myth on Monday, December 11. 

Swiss composer and electroacoustic musician François J. Bonnet and American guitarist Stephen O’Malley are both ardent explorers of peripheral sound tactics whose music thrives on testing limits. Usually working under the name Kassel Jaeger, Bonnet strikes a complex balance between concrète experimentalism, ambient noise, and electroacoustic improvisation. O’Malley has conceptualized and participated in numerous drone and experimental projects for over two decades, including such revered and daunting outfits as Sunn O))), KTL and Khanate. Together, as Joseph Ghosn writes in his liner notes for their debut collaboration, Cylene, “Stephen and François deal in those moments and instants that happen after the violence, and the ugliness and the mess. Their music is about chaos being summoned and ordered. It is about the noise that nurtures your ears after a long heartbreaking pain.”
