Ars Nova Workshop presents a duo performance by Bill Nace and pedal steel guitarist Susan Alcorn, commemorating the release of Through a Room, Nace’s latest LP on Drag City, at Solar Myth on Thursday, December 29.

Across a couple of decades, Bill Nace has filled his dance card with a who’s-who of noise liberators. If you had to sum up what he does in a couple words, they’d almost certainly be “improvising guitarist.” But the LPs he has made in recent times for Drag City profoundly abstract both terms.

Using the looped-and-screwed methodology of Both, his 2020 release on Drag City, Nace takes a seismic step with Through a Room (2022), building the process into a larger compositional process, employing guitar plus tapes, hurdy gurdy, doughnut pipe, quelle est belle, and the artist’s latest axe of choice, taishōgoto. Phrases talk to and obliterate each other, expanding and emerging into brave new unheard vistas.
