Ars Nova Workshop presents the return of rising star saxophonist Zoh Amba and her mesmerizing Sun Ensemble at Solar Myth on Tuesday, April 22.

Zoh Amba Sun Ensemble, a remarkable project led by saxophonist and composer Zoh Amba, blends avant-garde jazz with spiritual intensity.  featuring Lex Korten (piano), Miguel Marcel Russell (percussion), and Kanoa Mendenhall (bass). Hailing from Tennessee, saxophonist/composer Zoh Amba devoted her formative years in the mountains to practicing alone in their forests, reaching for greater depths and soaring heights in sound, her saxophone echoing with raw, searching tones. Blossoming a sound that joins avant-garde, noise, and devotional resonance, her compositions—steeped in folk motifs, hypnotic refrains, and chant-like invocations—seek to reach into listeners’ hearts. Amba’s voice as a composer and performer has been shaped by collaborations with luminaries like William Parker, Tyshawn Sorey and Thurston Moore, and the Sun Ensemble represents the next chapter in her fascinating evolution.
