Amba / Corsano Duo

  • Zoh Amba – saxophone
  • Chris Corsano – drums

Ars Nova Workshop presents the return of rising star tenor saxophonist Zoh Amba in a duo performance with drummer Chris Corsano at Solar Myth on June 25.

A dauntless saxophonist who has rapidly become a focus of the NYC creative music community, Zoh Amba was the first performer to headline Solar Myth with a gripping trio concert last November. She’ll make her welcome return in a duo outing with drummer Chris Corsano, a drummer based in upstate New York who has been active at the intersections of collective improvisation, free jazz, avant-rock, and noise music since the late 1990s. Having toured with Björk throughout 2007 and 08, Corsano has gone on to record prolifically with the likes of Bill Nace, Richard Bishop, Ben Chasny, Nate Wooley, Joe McPhee, Sylvie Courvoisier, Ken Vandermark, Nels Cline, Merzbow, Jim O’Rourke and others. Originally from Tennessee, Amba boasts a sound deeply informed by Albert Ayler, Frank Wright, Arthur Doyle and their fire-breathing contemporaries, and has found common ground with innovators like William Parker, Francisco Mela, Joey Baron and John Zorn.
