Tim Berne’s Bearclaw

Ars Nova Workshop is pleased to prevent the return of renowned saxophonist Tim Berne with his new trio Bearclaw, featuring regular collaborators Gregg Belisle-Chi and Tom Rainey, at Solar Myth on Saturday, March 16.

Alto saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and Screwgun label boss Tim Berne asserts a strong and singular musical personality that links his diverse and frequently absorbing works in an astonishing variety of styles, typically juxtaposing meticulously noted arrangements with free improvisation. His ever-unpredictable ensembles have featured a staggering array of leading-edge jazz voices, including Chris Speed, Jim Black, Michael Formanek, Craig Taborn, Marc Ducret, Bobby Previte, Bill Frisell, and many others. For his latest return to Solar Myth, he’ll perform with a new trio featuring familiar voices: drummer Tom Rainey, whose history with Berne encompasses the ensembles Paraphrase, Big Satan and Science Friction; and guitarist Gregg Belisle-Chi, a more recent collaborator who has explored Berne’s compositions in solo and duo recordings as well as with the quartet Bat Channel.
