The Brother Moves On

Ars Nova Workshop is proud to present the South African performance art ensemble The Brother Moves On at Solar Myth on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, The Brother Moves On was founded in 2008 by artist Nkululeko Mthembu and his brother Siyabonga Mthembu from the acclaimed Shabaka and The Ancestors. Beginning as a loose art collective including graphic and performance artists, TBMO are part of a powerful lineage of South African protest music and the “most important band in the country” according to Platform. The Brother Moves On is known for their phenomenal live shows that heal and challenge in equal measure and have been described as “tradition-trouncing trans-Atlantic Afro-centric futuristically ancient fusion” in which core members and invited performers take on various roles combining storytelling, theater, drawing, video installation and other experimental media.
