Ars Nova Workshop is excited to present the spiritual jazz of keyboardist and composer Surya Botofasina at Solar Myth on Saturday, January 27.
Raised at the Sai Anantam Ashram in Southern California, Surya Botofasina was mentored from an early age by the legendary harpist, pianist and spiritual leader Alice Coltrane. Her musical and religious teachings continue to have a profound effect on the keyboardist, whose career has since gone on to take in acting stints in the TV series Vinyl and Boardwalk Empire alongside a diverse range of musical collaborations with the likes of Reggie Workman, Joey Bada$$, Gangstarr’s Guru, Amel Larrieux, N’Dea Davenport, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. He played a major role in Andre3000’s latest recording. His work as the Music Director of the Sai Anantam Ashram Singers has seen him tour internationally honoring Swamini Turiyasangitananda Alice Coltrane’s devotional music. Celebrating the release of his Carlos Niño-produced debut, Everyone’s Children, Botofasina will be joined by the prolific drummer and human rights activist Swiss Chris.
