- Sakina Abdou — saxophone
- Bill Nace — guitar
Ars Nova Workshop presents the venturesome duo of saxophonist Sakina Abdou and guitarist Bill Nace at Solar Myth on Wednesday, July 3.
Experimental guitarist Bill Nace is no stranger to Solar Myth, having shared our stage with the likes of Steve Gunn, John Truscinski and Susan Alcorn. Based in Philly, Nace performs in the band Body/Head with Kim Gordon and has collaborated with Yoko Ono, Joe McPhee, Thurston Moore, and many others. His improvisations and compositions extend the boundaries of electric guitar technique, using bows, metal, wood, glass bowls, and other implements. His distinctive musical vocabulary references folk, rock, and punk traditions as he works to make a ubiquitous instrument sound new. He’ll return in a pairing with the French saxophonist Sakina Abdou, whose work bridges the worlds of free improvisation, experimental music and contemporary classical. She has collaborated with the Dedalus Ensemble to reinterpret the work of american minimalist composers like Philip Glass and Moondog, performed the music of Ingrid Laubrock and Satoko Fujii with the Muzzix collective, and expressed herself in the porous, poetic writing of Eve Risser’s Red Desert Orchestra and the avant-garde pop of the Moger Orchestra.
