Ars Nova Workshop presents saxophonist-composer Patrick Zimmerli with “Messages,” his suite for saxophone quartet and rhythm section, featuring an all-star group of reed masters at Solar Myth on Friday, September 8.
Based in New York and Paris, Patrick Zimmerli has composed numerous orchestral, chamber and choral works bridging the worlds of jazz and classical music since winning the inaugural Thelonious Monk Composers Competition in 1993. He premiered “Messages,” originally composed for classical saxophone quartet and rhythm section, in 2019. This fall Zimmerli is unveiling a new adaptation for jazz saxophonists featuring an unparalleled line-up featuring some of the most esteemed plates of their generation. At Solar Myth Zimmerli will be joined by fellow saxophonists Chris Potter, Ron Blake, and Román Filiú O’Reilly, along with the rhythm section of pianist Edward Simon, bassist Scott Colley, and drummer Timothy Angulo.
