Mary Halvorson’s Amaryllis

February 8, 2024

Ars Nova Workshop is proud to present guitar innovator Mary Halvorson and her dauntless all-star sextet Amaryllis at Solar Myth on February 8, 2024.

Guitarist Mary Halvorson has been called “an unflinching original who has revealed new possibilities within the music” by the New York Times and described by NPR as “the most future-seeking guitarist working right now.” The acclaimed self-titled 2022 debut by her new sextet Amaryllis was named Album of the Year in the DownBeat  and Arts Fuse critics’ polls, and the band’s follow-up, Cloudward, further evolves its rich, intricate sound. The band’s stellar line-up features some of the most heralded voices in modern creative music: trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, trombonist Jacob Garchik, vibraphonist Patricia Brennan, bassist Nick Dunson and drummer Tomas Fujiwara. The Guardian lauded the debut album (and its companion piece, Belladonna) as a landmark in Halvorson’s already widely praised discography, saying that the music “shows how far this single-minded original has come, and affords a glimpse of how far she may go.”
