Please join Ars Nova Workshop for a captivating solo performance by the Spanish-American pianist Marta Sánchez at Solar Myth on Thursday, December 17, 2026.
Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, pianist and composer Marta Sánchez is actively working in the contemporary creative music scene in New York City and around the globe. Charting a significant path through her innovative and original music, she has reached an international audience and earned broad critical recognition. Sánchez has released four acclaimed albums with her quintet in addition to the 2024 trio album Perpetual Void. She also tours and records with the David Murray Quartet, is a regular member of groups such as the Oscar Noriega Quartet, the Maria Grand Duo, and the Webber/Morris Big Band, and has worked as a sidewoman with artists including Sara Serpa, Immanuel Wilkins, Emma Frank, Terri Lyne Carrington and many others.
Sánchez released her debut solo piano recording, For the Space You Left, earlier this year. Long daunted by the prospect of solo performance, she found her voice through experimenting with piano preparations. For The Space You Left is the result of years of exploration and experimentation, successfully distilling the signature compositional elements she utilizes for quintet and trio into a single instrument, and through entrancing rhythmic loops and melodic counterpoint creating something uniquely her own. Writing for The Vinyl District, Joseph Neff hailed Sánchez’s solo pieces as, “gripping, life-affirming excursions that should please any fan of top-flight piano science.”
