Ars Nova Workshop is thrilled to present the ground–breaking Ligeti Quartet, performing the work of Wadada Leo Smith and Anna Meredith at Solar Myth on Monday, May 6, 2024.

The Ligeti Quartet has been at the forefront of modern and contemporary music since its formation in 2010, breaking new ground through innovative programming and championing of today’s most exciting composers and artists. The quartet named themselves after the Hungarian composer György Ligeti (1923– 2006), inspired by his kaleidoscopic musical outlook and tireless invention. At Solar Myth they will be performing works by the visionary trumpeter-composer Wadada Leo Smith and the un-categorizable composer Anna Meredith. Part of the first generation of musicians to come out of Chicago‘s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), Smith has established himself as one of the leading composers and performers of creative contemporary music since the early 1970s. A composer, producer and performer of both acoustic and electronic music, Meredith’s sound is frequently described as “genre–defying” and straddles the worlds of contemporary classical, art pop, film and TV soundtracks, electronica, installations and experimental rock.
