Ars Nova Workshop is honored to present a meeting of two avant-garde legends, as percussionist Kahil El’Zabar and saxophonist David Murray join forces at Solar Myth on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Legendary percussionist and bandleader Kahil El’Zabar and saxophone icon David Murray have enjoyed a storied collaboration that has spanned more than four decades and traversed the globe several times over. Both, as Ron Wynn wrote for JazzTimes, “epitomize in their actions and approach the highest aspects of the jazz life [and are] dedicated to a musical vision unconcerned with trends or prevailing wisdom.”
El’Zabar & Murray have captivated audiences worldwide for over 40 years. The duo returns to Solar Myth for their latest tour, which they’ve christened WE BE FREE—a title that epitomizes the boundless spirit of freedom and exploration that has been the touchstone for their remarkable careers. This new tour continues to build on their shared legacy as pioneers of Great Black Music, bringing together decades of innovation, global performance history, and cultural impact. Unpredictable as it may be, the collaboration promises a dynamic and deeply expressive program rooted in spiritual jazz improvisation and the ongoing exploration of freedom through sound.
