Warriors of the Wonderful Sound

Ars Nova Workshop celebrates the 98th birthday of John Coltrane with a screening of the new short film Speakn’ Trane and a special performance by Bobby Zankel’s Wonderful Sound 7 featuring Immanuel Wilkins.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Shahkeem E. Williams, written and produced by John Coltrane Symposium founder Anyabwile Love, and filmed on Philadelphia locations such as the John Coltrane House, Speakn’ Trane stars Cameron André as the iconic saxophonist, who sits for a revealing interview as he prepares to unveil his groundbreaking album A Love Supreme.

The party culminates in a very special, all-star Wonderful Sound 7 featuring saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, trombonist Robin Eubanks, drummer Pheeroan akLaff, pianist Sumi Tonooka, and bassist Lee Smith, among other surprise guests. Featuring arrangements of Coltrane’s late work in addition to Zankel’s multi-dimensional original compositions.

Hosted by Anyabwile Love.

Presented by John Coltrane Symposium, Coltrane House Philadelphia, Warriors of the Wonderful Sound, and Ars Nova Workshop.
