Joel Ross Good Vibes

Ars Nova Workshop presents an evening with the thrilling young vibraphonist Joel Ross and his band Good Vibes at Solar Myth on January 8, 2023.

The ascent of vibraphonist Joel Ross in the jazz firmament is exemplified by his placement in the annual DownBeat Critics Poll, where he debuted high in the ranks of the Rising Stars before topping the full-fledged Vibraphonists category in 2021 and ’22. Ross has released three acclaimed albums on the iconic Blue Note label, the first two featuring his quintet Good Vibes, which includes Philadelphia-born saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins.

The New York Times hailed 2020’s Who Are You? for the ways it “speaks to a new level of group cohesion…more tangle, more sharing, more possibility.” Ross continues refining an expression that’s true to his sound and his generation, recently becoming one of the youngest artists to earn a coveted residency commission from The Jazz Gallery and a spot in The Jazz Gallery All Stars band, through which he performed live at The Kennedy Center. The Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based has become the vibraphonist of choice for such forward-thinking bandleaders as Makaya McCraven, Marquis Hill, Peter Evans, Walter Smith III, and Matthew Stevens.
