Ars Nova Workshop presents the singular tenor saxophonist Jason Rigby and his trio Mayhem at Solar Myth on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

After nearly a decade away from recording as a leader, saxophonist Jason Rigby made his triumphant return in August 2025 with Mayhem, a groundbreaking duo album featuring renowned drummer Mark Guiliana. The project expands to a trio as it arrives at Solar Myth, adding the eclectic bassist Chris Morrissey to the mix.

Mayhem represents both a sonic and emotional departure for Rigby. The album arrives after a transformative decade of extensive touring that shaped Rigby both personally and creatively, giving him the space to evolve and reach a place where he felt ready to express ideas that felt truly his own. Mayhem showcases this evolution through its incorporation of sounds and instruments Rigby had never explored in his recordings before—synthesizers, keyboards, electronic processing, and more—creating both a sonic and emotional shift that represents a new chapter in his musical journey. It draws on the deep collaboration between Rigby and Guiliana, a 15-year musical partnership that has taken them around the world. As a fellow member of Guiliana’s audacious quartet, Morrissey has also been a vital part of that relationship, which will doubtless make this performance a compelling excursion.
