James “Blood” Ulmer

Two-night Residency

April 14
April 15 (Sold Out)
8:00PM

Ars Nova Workshop is honored to present two thrilling performances by legendary guitarist James “Blood” Ulmer at Solar Myth on April 14 & 15.

Called “The most original guitarist since Jimi Hendrix” by the late Rolling Stone critic Robert Palmer, James “Blood” Ulmer developed Ornette Coleman’s theory of harmolodics into his own singular blend of avant-jazz, free-funk, and thorny blues. Following his foundational stint with the iconic saxophonist, Ulmer released a series of landmark albums in the late 70s and early 80s, including Tales of Captain Black, Are You Glad To Be in America? and Odyssey, and formed the exploratory Music Revelation Ensemble with David Murray. He’ll perform two very special sets at Solar Myth, one a solo evening and the other featuring his Black Rock Trio with Philadelphia drummer G. Calvin Weston and bassist Mark Peterson.
