Ars Nova Workshop presents the duo of renowned improvisers Ingrid Laubrock and Tom Rainey at Solar Myth.

Two of contemporary music’s most respected composer-improvisers, saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock and drummer Tom Rainey continue the evolution of their exploratory collaboration with this Philadelphia performance. Together or separately the two have worked with such artists as Anthony Braxton, Tim Berne, Dave Douglas, Mary Halvorson, Tyshawn Sorey, Nels Cline, Kris Davis, John Abercrombie and Jason Moran. The duo will be celebrating the release of their latest album, Counterfeit Mars, which draws on the several years and many projects they have shared since they began working together more than fifteen years ago. Their experiences of playing original compositions, open improvisations and even standard songs inform the pair’s improvising and approach to composition. Francis Bradley of Jazz Right Now writes of Laubrock and Rainey, “Two musicians each with intimate understanding about their counterpart’s abilities, tendencies, and artistic vision delve fearlessly into each other.
