Angelo Outlaw

On the closing night of the 2024 Philly Music Fest, Ars Nova Workshop is pleased to present Sun Ra Arkestra maestro Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons in addition to an opening set from Philly percussionist and poet Angelo Outlaw at Solar Myth on Sunday, October 27.

After 100 years on the planet, Marshall Allen remains a brilliant imaginative force whose life has spanned nearly the entire history of jazz, and whose career has folded that timeline in on itself in myriad fascinating ways. A key member of the Sun Ra Arkestra for more than six decades and its dauntless leader for the last quarter century, Allen has kept the iconic bandleader’s cosmic torch blazing brightly while forging a path through the spaceways as a singular voice on the alto saxophone and Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI).

Opening the night will be percussionist and poet Angelo Outlaw, a deeply cosmic artist whose creativity knows no bounds. A master mallet percussionist and a thoughtful poet, Outlaw’s unique style on vibraphone and marimba can only be described as dazzling. His work transcends race, creed, religion, and politics, and has the power to speak to the universality of time, space, and human connection.

Please note: Glass Band is no longer performing.
