Ars Nova Workshop presents The Bad Plus saxophonist Chris Speed and his trio featuring bassist Chris Tordini and drummer Dave King, at Solar Myth on Monday, September 11. 

With his membership in a reconfigured The Bad Plus, saxophonist/clarinetist Chris Speed adds one more entry to his roster of influential genre-melding jazz bands. In the late 80s he formed Human Feel with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Andrew D’Angelo and Jim Black, all of whom went on to become vital voices in a new jazz underground during the next decade. After moving from Boston to New York he and Black became part of saxophonist/composer Tim Berne’s formative quartet Bloodcount. Speed went on to found the dauntless bands Yeah NO (who played Ars Nova’s first concert ever!), The Clarinets, and Endangered Blood. His latest trio includes bassist Chris Tordini and Bad Plus bandmate Dave King on drums; together they transform numerous curiosity-led excursions past the porous boundaries of jazz into a meticulously focused sound that ties it all together with his foundational immersion in the tradition.
