In conjunction with The Living Temple, the ongoing exhibition celebrating the life and work of Swedish visual artist and designer Moki Cherry, Ars Nova Workshop presents a special in-exhibit performance with the visionary producer, percussionist, composer, and cosmic facilitator Carlos Niño in collaboration with rising Los Angeles saxophonist Aaron Shaw, at the Fabric Workshop & Museum on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 12:30 PM.

Carlos Niño describes himself as a “communicator” — a role encompassing his own recordings, his integral contributions to André 3000’s New Blue Sun, and decades of community-rooted broadcast work through his long-running Spaceways Radio on Los Angeles’ KPFK. Mentored early on by figures including Adam Rudolph, Dwight Trible, and Billy Higgins, Niño has cultivated a far-reaching creative circle spanning Shabaka Hutchings, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Jamire Williams, and many others.

Multi-instrumentalist Aaron Shaw is one of Los Angeles’s brightest emerging talents. Born and raised in Ladera Heights, he cut his teeth at the Fernando Pullum Community Arts Center and the LA County High School for the Arts before eventually entering the tutelage of Kamasi Washington, who he is featured on the entirety of the 2025 release Saul Williams meets Carlos Niño & Friends at TreePeople. Shaw has collaborated with everyone from Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, Phil Ranelin, Herbie Hancock, and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, to Mary J. Blige, Dave Chapelle, Tyler, The Creator, Anderson .Paak, Nightmares on Wax and many more OG, established, emerging, and underground artists.
