Ars Nova Workshop presents the acclaimed harpist Brandee Younger for a two-night residency at Solar Myth, March 12-13.
“No harpist thus far has been more capable of combining all of the modern harp traditions — from Salzedo, through Dorothy Ashby, through Alice Coltrane — with such strength, grace and commitment.” –The New York Times
Carrying forward the innovations of Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby, Brandee Younger is a brilliant harpist who made history at the 2022 Grammy Awards as the first Black female solo artist nominated in the Best Instrumental Composition category for her song “Beautiful Is Black.” Younger infuses her sound with influences from jazz, hip-hop, classical, funk, and R&B, and has performed and recorded with artists across myriad genres including John Legend, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Common, Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, Ron Carter, and Charlie Haden.
