Bobby Zankel and the Wonderful Sound Time Travelers

Ars Nova Workshop presents legendary Philadelphia-based saxophonist/composer Bobby Zankel and an all-star, cross-generational incarnation of his Warriors of the Wonderful Sound at Solar Myth on January 20 & 21.

Since his arrival in Philadelphia in 1975, Bobby Zankel has led multiple versions of his Warriors of the Wonderful Sound, from big bands to smaller ensembles, all dedicated to his singular, dazzling compositions. Over that time the band has collaborated with jazz greats including Muhal Richard Abrams, Steve Coleman, and Rudresh Mahanthappa, among others. The Wonderful Sound Time Travelers debuts a new all-star line-up featuring veteran improvisers William Parker (bass) and Pheeroan akLaff (drums), local favorites Sumi Tonooka (piano) and Nazir Ebo (drums), and rising star Chicago saxophonist Isaiah Collier, making his Philadelphia debut.
