Billy Harper Quintet

Ars Nova Workshop is thrilled to present the legendary saxophonist Billy Harper and his quintet featuring trumpeter Freddie Hendrix, at Solar Myth on July 27-28.

Earlier this year, the New York Times declared that, “At 80, Billy Harper is still a towering force.” The ferocious tenor player has maintained that status for nearly six decades, from his early experiences playing with such giants as Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Lee Morgan, the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. His landmark 1975 album Black Saint lent its name to the vital Italian record label, while in recent years Harper has been an essential part of the all-star hard bop supergroup The Cookers. At Solar Myth he’ll lead his own next-generation quintet, featuring trumpeter Freddie Hendrix, pianist Francesca Tanksley, bassist Corcoran Holt and drummer Aaron Scott.
