Anna Webber’s Shimmer Wince

Ars Nova Workshop presents saxophonist, flutist, and composer Anna Webber with her exploratory new quintet Shimmer Wince, at Solar Myth on Monday, October 2. 

The audacious, inventive music of flutist, saxophonist, and composer Anna Webber lives in the aesthetic overlap between avant-garde jazz and new classical music. She was recently named a 2021 Berlin Prize Fellow and was voted the top “Rising Star” flutist in the 2020 Downbeat Critic’s Poll. Shimmer Wince is a thrilling new quintet whose name suggests the alternately evanescent and violently angular contours of its sound. The group features Webber along with trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, cellist Mariel Roberts, synth player Elias Stemeseder, and drummer Lesley Mok – a line-up whose palette and imagination is equally expansive.
