Melvin Gibbs is a Grammy nominated composer, musician, artist, and writer, born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y.  This talk will examine some of the ideas that inform John Coltrane‘s cosmic music. It will dig into connections between cosmology and jazz that Gibbs has explored in collaboration with theoretical cosmologist Stephon Alexander, the author of “The Jazz Of Physics” a book which examines the connection between Albert Einstein and John Coltrane, and in his own book “How Black Music Took Over The World”, where Gibbs digs into this connection while examining tenets of African philosophy and cosmologies and philosophy- the “Black Science” – that underpins Black music as a whole.
