For the closing night of the 2025 Philly Music Fest, Ars Nova Workshop presents the unique pairing of two boundlessly creative, Philadelphia-based drummers – Nazir Ebo and Daniel Villarreal – at Solar Myth on Sunday, October 19.
Panama-born, Chicago-based drummer and DJ Daniel Villarreal is a widely known and beloved drummer, musician, and DJ rooted in the vibrant Chicago music scene, now based in Philadelphia. His dynamic energy and skillful versatility have made him a sought-after artist, with frequent performances alongside the renowned bands Dos Santos and Valebol, as well as being an integral part of Neal Francis’ 11-piece ensemble. At just 23 years of age, Nazir Ebo was declared, “the Philadelphia jazz scene’s next breakthrough talent” by WRTI. The second drum prodigy to emerge from his West Philadelphia home, following older brother Justin Faulkner of the Branford Marsalis Quartet, Ebo has become an in-demand sideman for such greats as Joshua Redman, Soweto Kinch, George Burton, and Salami Rose Joe Louis.
