Giuseppi Logan Quartet

Originally from Philadelphia, Giuseppi Logan (b. 1935) began playing with Earl Bostic at age 15 and later studied at the New England Conservatory. In 1964 he relocated to New York City and became embroiled in the Free Jazz scene, where he collaborated with Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders and Bill Dixon before forming his own quartet comprised of pianist Don Pullen (and later Dave Burrell), bassist Eddie Gomez and percussionist Milford Graves. This quartet appeared at the October Revolution in Jazz in 1964. Logan was also a member of Byard Lancaster's band and toured with and appeared on records by Patty Waters. He recorded two albums for ESP Disk and later appeared on an album by Roswell Rudd on Impulse!. Beginning around 1966, Logan's activities became unclear. He was subsequently presumed dead. Now known to be residing in Brooklyn, and making one of his first appearances in 45 year, Logan brings his quartet to Philadelphia for a very special homecoming performance.
